Walk-to-School Day

Fit-for-Life Kick Off

Timothy Ball Elementary School

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Members of Crown Point Safe Pathways, parents of school children and school faculty celebrated "International Walk to School Day" with several events to mark the occasion.  These included a series of "walking school buses" where adults walked, house-to-house, picking up children and walking them as a group to Timothy Ball School.  As many as 100 CHILDREN took part!  Once there, participants gathered at a pep-rally at the school's gym where Principal Equihua introduced Timothy Ball's new "Fit-for-Life" program which aims to encourage children to eat right and be active.  That day,  a walking relay took place where children raised money for the distances they are able to walk.  ALL school children also recieved free pedometers compliments of Pinnacle Hospital.

In all, the event was an overwhelming success!  CP Safe Pathways aims to involve the entire Crown Point School Corporation during the day.  In the meantime, we will be working with Principal Equihua on expanding programs to carry the success of the day throughout the year.

Here are some pictures from the day:
